19 Day Outreach in Western Province of Zambia

This outreach trip was designed to help in the growth of the five Churches of Christ that we planted in Kaoma and Mongu Districts of Western Zambia.  There are two in Kaoma at Longe Mwache and Namilange.  We found that the church at Longe Mwache has baptized members and has an attendance of 25 people, while the one at Namilange has eight members and an attendance of seventeen people.  We planted these congregations in 2005.  The congregation in Kaoma, Kaoma Central (1984), has remained at a steady slow growth since 1984 until 2005 when we planted the two above.  It draws its membership mostly from the Zambian army barracks at Luena near Kaoma Township.  The slow growth rate is due to its members who go out very often for patrols and other out of station duties.  However, the Church of Christ soldiers are involved in the worship service activities and are committed.  Two people were baptized and three were restored at Kaoma Church of Christ.  On Sunday, 29 July 2007, Brother Sibongani went to Namilange Church of Christ, Brother Kambeu worshipped at Longe Mwache and I was at Kaoma Church of Christ.  Each one of us spoke where we attended and reported a good reception.
The week beginning 30 July to 4 August 2007 was spent on door-to-door campaigns as follows:

Date                             Day                               Place (area)
7/30/07                        Monday                        Namushakende Central
7/31/07                        Tuesday                        Namushakende Central
8/1/07                           Wednesday                  Kasokoto
8/2/07                           Thursday                       Namatoya
8/3/07                           Friday                            Nambwata
8/4/07                           Saturday                       Kembi

Brothers Folokwe and Akandebwa went with us on these door-to-door campaigns to these places.  The campaign was very successful and people accepted to be taught during these visits in their homes.  We talked to more than 60 people on Sunday, 5 August 2007.  The attendance was 35 people.  I know that 20 of these were members of the Church of Christ that were baptized during our previous trips in this area.  Since this ia a young congregation at Namushakende, more visitations and encouragement is needed.  The members are willing in the growth of the church but the leaders are not well versed in the scripture and the church. At Mongu Church of Christ where Brother Kambeu worshipped, four people were baptized and one restored.  Brother Sibongani went to Limulunga Church of Christ and reported a good attendance.

During the 2nd week of our stay in Western Province, we conducted lessons to the church leaders as follows:

            Date                              Day                              Topics                        Attendance
            8/6/07                          Monday                        Church History                     6
8/7/07                          Tuesday                       Acts of Worship                        7
            8/8/07                          Wednesday                 The Bible                                   4
8/9/07                          Thursday                      Church of Christ in Zambia         10
            8/10/07                        Friday                           Church Structure                      6

During mornings, we visited church members at Limulunga and Ndau while in the afternoons we taught classes.  That was a time well spent and helpful to all of us.  We also found out that the longer we stayed in these areas, the more receptive and welcoming the people were in the area.
On Sunday 12 August 2007 there were five baptized and 10 restored total during the worship services of these four congregations as reported by the three of us who went to different congregations.

In Summary:

Baptized in these 19 days............11
Restored in these 19 days...........14
Met during door-to-door................60
Total attendance at worship.........31
